Matthew Cotton, a nineteen year teaching veteran, has taught in the public and charter schools of Ohio, California, Georgia, and South Carolina as well as the United Kingdom. Additionally he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Music at the University of South Carolina Sumter.
Under his direction, three of his music programs have been recognized by the NAMM Foundation for their excellence with the SupportMusic Merit Award: Alliance Marc and Eva Stern Math and Science School (2012), Locke College Preparatory Academy (2016, 2017), and Campus International High School (2019, 2020, 2021). The ensembles under his direction have been praised for their musicality and enthusiasm and have received Superior and Excellent ratings. Mr. Cotton was recently awarded, by nomination and the vote of his colleagues the 2019-20 Campus International High School's Award for Professional Leadership, the school's version of teacher of the year.

Mr. Cotton graduated from the University of Georgia in 2000 with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education, from Central Michigan University (2003) with a Masters of Music in Music Composition Performance, from Nova Southeastern University (2006) with an Educational Specialist in Brain Research, and from California State University - Los Angeles (2013) with a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership.
Mr. Cotton has studied conducting with H. Dwight Satterwhite, John Culvahouse, Yoel Levi, and Carlton Woods; music education with Peter Webster, Beatriz Ilari, and Sheila Woodward; composition with David R. Gillingham and Augusta Reed Thomas; and has worked with the famous tenor Jerry Hadley.
